There are sensible reasons why you should have a Will, and keep it up to date. Without a Will, you can't be sure what will happen to your property and possessions. The law of the land takes effect where there is no Will and unfortunate consequences can result - especially if you have remarried following divorce, or are living with a partner, or have assets that take you past the inheritance tax threshold. A Will lets you leave clear guidance, saving your grieving loved ones from having to sort things out themselves.

Whatever your decision about the type of legacy to leave, our advice is always that you should use a solicitor to write or change your Will.

How would you like to be remembered?

Two thirds of Yorkshire Cancer Research's income is from legacies. Without legacies, most of our ground-breaking research projects would not be possible. What better legacy can you leave than to enable research to continue, so that lives are saved in the future?

What do I need to do?

If you want to leave a legacy to Yorkshire Cancer Research, you will need to have it written into your Will. If you already have a Will, this can be done simply by a solicitor adding a 'codicil' (an amendment to your Will). It is important to note the word Yorkshire in our title and our registered charity number 516898, otherwise your legacy could, mistakenly, be directed elsewhere.

Having catered for family and friends, you might care to include a legacy to Yorkshire Cancer Research. Our Chief Executive will be very pleased to discuss how a legacy will help. You might have a cash legacy in mind, or you might be attracted to the idea of leaving a share of your estate (which can be more appropriate if you're not sure how much your assets will be worth).

Making a lasting difference

Cancer touches almost everyone at some time during their lives. Even if we haven't experienced it directly ourselves, we know someone who has. By helping Yorkshire Cancer Research tackle cancer, you can give hope and cures to the next generation.

It would be very helpful to the charity if you would let us know if you have, or are going to, leave a bequest in your Will to us. Click here to complete an online pledge form or download our printable pledge form:
