Q How can Yorkshire people benefit by giving to YCR?

The work being undertaken in Yorkshire universities and hospitals by YCR funded scientists is helping cancer patients all over the world. Our work is of global importance.

Q Why should we keep the research within Yorkshire?

By funding research in Yorkshire, YCR is helping to attract scientists of international calibre, and keep them here. This is helping to make Yorkshire a centre of excellence for cancer research.

Q Where exactly does my money go to?

72p in every pound expenditure goes to cancer research. This is one of the highest levels of any cancer reseach charity, and something we are very proud of. Our Finances page details our income and expenditure, and how much is funded to each university.

Q Would Yorkshire Cancer Research fund medical research which uses animals?

A lot of cancer research in our laboratories is carried out without using animals.  However, there are instances when potentially life-saving research still depends on the use of animals.

As a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC), Yorkshire Cancer Research endorses the AMRC position on the use of animals in medical research, and will only fund animal research when there is no alternative.

We believe that all our research is vital, in order to achieve our aim of helping more people to survive cancer in the future.

Q Doesn't having more than one cancer research charity dilute the effort and spread the funds too thinly?

There are many cancer research charities in the UK. Some are general and some have specific remits. We believe that having a range of cancer research charities actually increases the total amount of money raised as the message is spread far wider than just one charity could ever achieve.
